Alcohol: The Satanic Ritual That Disconnects You From God
#3 - The Quranic Truth About Alcohol That Most Muslims Don't Understand
Peace, Truth Seekers,
The topic of Alcohol in Islam is of crucial importance. It’s almost universal knowledge that drinking liquor is one of the major sins in Islam. Most Muslims don’t drink alcohol, and when they do, it is usually a sign of poor spiritual health.

The verse above confirms that indulging in alcohol intoxication is nothing but a Satanic ritual. Avoiding this ritual is key to success.
Why is Alcohol So Detrimental to Our Spiritual Health?
To answer this question, we need to distinguish between the Soul and the Spirit. I’ve touched on this topic in my last post, and I will expand on it today to provide further context.
According to Islam, the Soul is the metaphysical creature that is responsible for the life and death of the human flesh.

When we are alive, our souls experience physical reality through our biological bodies. In design, we are almost identical to all mammals on earth. We experience reality through our 5 senses and have instincts and evolutionary survival traits.
The only thing that makes us special is the Spirit.
Adam was the first of God’s earthly creatures to receive the breath of the Spirit. Because of this blessing, Adam was chosen among all creatures to be the successor over this earth. The special status Adam earned is a testament to the uniqueness and importance of the spirit he received.
What Role Does the Spirit Have in Our Lives?
The spirit enables us to receive messages directly from God. Spirituality is the medium in which our prayers reach our Creator.
Since the spirit is crucial to receiving the blessings of God, it becomes your guide that shows you how to walk the Straight Path. (الصراط المستقيم)
God didn’t create you on earth and neglected you. God gave you an associate or a companion that you can always refer to as you navigate your journey on this earth. The spirit has been your guide since the moment you were born, whispering in your mind with a voice, vision, and a path.

The spirit represents a higher awareness that informs us, regardless of our excuses, about what is right and what is wrong.
Consequently, it becomes a spiritual Muslim’s highest interest to keep his spirit healthy in his body.
Alcohol Mutes and Expels Your Spirit
Alcohol affects the brain by interfering with communication pathways and impairing judgment, memory, and coordination. Long-term heavy drinking can lead to brain damage, cognitive deficits, and conditions like alcohol use disorder.
When the communication pathways in our brain are altered, we won’t be able to make sense of what the spirit is telling us.
The Spirit will not find in your body the environment for it to communicate with you, so it will leave until you’re sober again. That’s why it doesn’t make sense for Muslims to pray while intoxicated.

Intoxication is the opposite state of spirituality. People who mess up with their spirituality using intoxicants cannot communicate with God because they choose to consume something that will alter their human state into a primitive animalistic state.
God communicates with human beings either:
- Directly through inspiration via the Spirit (as God did with the mother of Moses),
- Directly but from behind a veil (as God did with Moses),
- Or through a messenger who reveals a message God has given them.
Consequently, the first means of communication between us and God is cut the moment we introduce intoxicants into our bodies.

Intoxication Turns Animalistic Behaviors On
The Quran refers to those who are not spiritual (or true believers) as cattle, not to insult them, but to inform them that there has been a change in their mindset that has lowered their level of awareness to that of cattle.

Every person who chooses to live life as cattle has strayed from the Straight Path. Whether this occurs through a conscious act of sin, idol worship, or drinking alcohol, their spirituality is jeopardized.
Intoxication expels the spirit out of the body. No wonder why they call liquor “Spirits.”
When the spirit leaves, only the soul remains in the body, with no “Guardian Spirit.” At this point, it’s easiest that the Devil would play games on you to throw you into hell.
The devil does that by turning on our animalistic instincts (like fight or flight mode) and by cutting the connection we have with God through prayers.

Alcohol throws you directly into the lap of the Devil, and you’re on your own.
Why does God allow Liquor in Paradise?

In paradise, the soul is purified and independent. As soon as a person is destined to enter Paradise on the Day of Judgment, their soul will ascend to the rank of “The Tranquil Soul.”

The tranquil soul no longer needs a spirit for guidance; it has reached maturity. The spirit continued to mentor and guide the immature soul on earth until it reached maturity, independence, and tranquility.
The Spirit has accomplished its assigned task, and in paradise, the Soul is free.
The liquor that God made available for us in paradise wouldn’t put us in danger of falling into the traps of the devil; the devil will be in hell anyway.
Life in paradise is so good and wholesome that no more evil can nucleate or grow. Therefore, the experience of drinking liquor in paradise will transform into a wholesome one that no one can comprehend how delightful it is before trying that experience in the afterlife.
